The Diary of Richard Moore |
March 7, 2010 - Sunday
Watched "Hangover". It wasn't all that it was reported to be. I don't expect it to win an OSCAR tonight.
Continued to eat mountains of the oatmeal cookies made by Debbie yesterday to amuse our grandson.
Grandson and daughter Jeni stayed until midnight, waiting for Richard to return from Denton with his new Bobcat.
It's the first day in a long time with a temperature above 60°. I am really tired of 36°.
March 8, 2010 - Monday
I am scurrying about this morning...trying to organize the mail, check my tax forms, looking for stamps and wondering where in the hell my camera has gone.
It's 60+ degrees again. Should I open the store door? Maybe not, the heat is running. Later in the afternoon I opened the door for a couple of hours.
The Reidsville Review called again today. It was their third phone call and for the third time I refused to answer the phone. I know who the Review is supporting for Commissioner. I see little reason to allow them to beat me up.
March 9, 2010 - Tuesday
73° today. Had my first customer to ask about drinking his wine outside on the sidewalk. I felt good to say yes. Also Scot-man came in for a beer, then Homer and Jethro bought four to go. My friend Madelyn brought in an Italian book about Burlesque. The rear cover of the book features a gorgeous photo of Madelyn.
March 10, 2010 - Wednesday
Rockingham County Commissioner Bobby Stanley came by for a visit today. Bobby drops in on an annual basis. He delivered his usual 30-minute speech about the world financial system, immigration, health care, and marijuana. Bobby said he used to drink to excess, but he has never "taken the reefer". Bobby does approve of those who "take the reefer".
Bobby mentioned the Rockingham County Commissioners are no longer praying to Jesus since the Forsyth County Commissioners were successfully sued to end their prayers to Jesus. Bobby said the Rockingham County Commissioners now have County Attorney Eugene Russell and Commission Chairman/Black Catholic Harold Bass do all the praying to ensure no laws are violated. Bobby declined to say how the Commissioners decided how to keep their prayers on the down-low. There was no discussion of the prayers during an open or closed session. According to Bobby, the Commissioners just knew what the right thing to do was and did it.
I told Bobby that he is brilliant. He was not sure whether to believe me.
I assured Bobby that I would vote for him. I also told him that I would be running on a campaign to donate my Commissioner salary to him and Amelia Dallas to repay them for their hard work and generosity. Bobby asked me not to do that. I insisted it was the least I could do for them.
Bobby said he still has his bottle of Cat Daddy moonshine sitting on his mantle. I suggested his grandchildren might drink it when he's gone. The idea made Bobby uncomfortable.
Wine guy came in today also. I learned his name is "Deadeye". He had a glass of wine and left. Twenty minutes later he came back to ask if I was guy who used to appear on channel "14".. He ordered another glass when I told him yes.
March 11, 2010 - Thursday
Mutual Wine dude delivered a case today. It was for Debbie to take to the beach. The case contained everything I already had in the store. It was a wasted purchase.
Matt is due in the store around 3 PM. I'll let him take care of business.
March 12, 2010 - Friday
I learned Stumble Stilkins in Greensboro got busted. Nothing unusual about that, except they were busted for $1500 or a 15-day suspension for a failure to keep their bar tidy. This is what we are paying Alcohol Law Enforcement and the ABC Commission for...housekeeping monitors. Also busted was Monterrey Mexican Restaurant and the Dirty Bottom in Reidsville. Lowe's Foods case is still undecided after 7 months. Lawyers are probably talking.
A moderate crowd attended tonight's throwdown. I ordered pizza to feed the masses.
To be continued....
